Paula Abdul's 'Ugly Betty' Role Goes to Kristen Johnston
While Paula Abdul's career has been on shaky ground lately, there's one thing she can be sure of: not making her appearance on ABC's Ugly Betty.  Now that her guest stint on the show won't see the light of day, there's a spot to be filled in.  Luckily, there's another actress ready for the challenge.

On the upcoming fourth season of Ugly Betty, fans will be welcoming former 3rd Rock from the Sun actress Kristen Johnston.  She'll be taking on the part of Helen, a character pegged as Mode's crazy new office temp.  She's also this elder version of Amanda (Becki Newton), so expect tons of laughs.

Entertainment Weekly reported that the Emmy winner Johnston had been in negotiations for quite some time now.  It was only a few days ago that she sealed the deal with the network, replacing the Idol judge.  It was said that they couldn't cater to Abdul's long list of demands, which even included a private jet.  How's that for comedy.

Upon getting the role, a laughing Kristen Johnston exclaimed, "I've always considered myself a poor man's Paula Abdul!"

The actress also described her character, saying Helen is like "Amanda in 10 years.  She's still trying to get into the right clubs, wearing tight dresses... tragic.  I think [Helen] sees herself as Samantha from Sex and the City.  Except, of course, she's a temp."

There's definitely going to be plenty of wacky stunts this new character's going to pull, and the question is how the others at Mode will handle it.  There is but one month (give or take a few days) separating us from the premiere of Ugly Betty's fourth season, and of course we're all excited.

We're not sure how many episodes the newcomer will guest star in, but it'll certainly be a treat to see her.  Don't miss Kristen Johnston's first appearance on the second half of Ugly Betty's two-hour premiere on October 9 at ABC.
