Many UFC fans are looking forward to the heavyweight title main event between current UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin, who is currently undefeated and holds a notable victory over Gabriel Gonzaga. But it looks like fans will have to wait a little bit longer since the fight has been postponed for early next year.
UFC has initially announced that Lesnar and Carwin will be featured on UFC 106, which is scheduled to commence on November 21 in Las Vegas, Nevada. As an alternative, the light heavyweight rematch between Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin has become the new main event for UFC 106.
"Brock Lesnar has been tearing through everyone over the last year," UFC president Dana White said in a statement. "But in Shane Carwin, he's not only fighting someone as big as he is, he's fighting someone who has ended all of his fights in less than three minutes. This is literally the biggest heavyweight title fight ever and may also be the most explosive."
So what caused the postponement of the fight? According to White, Lesnar has suffered from an illness that has kept him from training for almost a month.
"He said he's never been this sick in his life," White told
Yahoo Sports. "He said it's been going on for a long time and he just hasn't been able to shake it."
Whether or not Lesnar has H1N1, commonly known as swine flu, is still unknown. Lesnar is also beyond the stage at which he could be tested for the virus, according to his co-manager Brian Stegeman.
Shane Carwin has then posted on his Twitter account on Monday that the fight may possibly be rescheduled for UFC 108 on January 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
