The Ultimate Fighter 7: Episode 7 Recap

The Ultimate Fighter has gotten into a new patter: two fights per episode.  I wonder if the UFC and Dana White received less episodes from SpikeTV.  Tonight's episode kicks off with Rampage Jackson finally having control of a fight announcement.  He relishes the control.  He chooses his own Gerald Harris versus Team Forrest's Amir Sadollah.  We learn about Gerald first – he's pounds people.  He's a rassler.  He is great on the ground – Rampage thinks Gerald fights like he does.  He calls him a Mini-Me.  Amir is completely inexperienced.  He's not too excited about going up a guy with a reputation for hurting people.  Forrest says that if Amir wins, he'll shave his head.

Gerald came to win.  He has two little boys at home he has to feed.  We get to fight day less than ten minutes into the episode.  Gerald's confidence is sky-high.  Amir's is not.

Amir Sodallah vs. Gerald Harris

Round 1:

Gerald bull rushes Amir and immediately takes him to the ground, against the fence.  They stay there for awhile, no one landing much of anything.  Gerald starts landing a couple punches and elbows.  Gerald pounds a little, but Amir eventually gets back to his feet.  Gerald does his signature move.  He picks Amir up and literally throws him to the ground on his head.  Amir survives, but then Gerald picks him up again and drops him on his back. In the last minute, Amir narrowly misses a big kick, and actually grabs top position on the ground.  That round definitely goes to Gerald.

Round 2:

Amir comes out firing kicks, doesn't land any, and then eats another Gerald bull rush.   Gerald lands a punch, but Amir wriggles away.  Most of the early round is spent with Gerald wrapped around Amir's lower body.  But then, Amir lands a knee, stuns Gerald, and then gets Gerald to the ground and lands a bunch of punches and the ref calls it.

Amir wins.  Gerald yells that he wasn't out – but it's pretty clear he was.  A huge time upset.  Gerald is absolutely devastated by his loss.

Team Forrest is back in control.  Griffin picks his own Cale Yarbrough vs. Rampage's Patrick Schultz.  Cale is a 21-year old dude who is almost exclusively a stand-up fighter.  He doesn't like the ground.  Ditto for Schultz.  Everyone thinks this will make for a great fight.   Rampage likes how Schultz has improved, thinks he's going to surprise people.

Cale Yarbrough vs. Patrick Schultz

Round 1:

Cale misses a huge kick early, and Patrick retaliates, but doesn't do much damage.  Patrick is the early aggressor.  A minute in, Patrick drops Cale with a punch, but Cale gets back up.  Both guys throw a lot of punches, but Pat is the only one to land any.  Late in the round, Cale bull rushes Pat and take him to the ground.  He lands a barrage of punches and elbows, but Pat makes it to is feel with a minute left in the fight.  The fight ends with Cale in top position on the ground.

Round 2:

Both dudes come out wailing once again, each landing punches and kicks and knees here and there.  Cale gets Patrick to the ground and gets in a bunch of elbows and punches to the face. The final four minutes of the round are spent with Cale in top position beating the living crap out of Patrick.

Cale wins via decision.
