The Ultimate Fighter 6: Episode 10 Recap
Wednesday, November 21, 2007
A lot went down tonight on The Ultimate Fighter. We got two semi-final fights, involving four Team Serra members. First up was Matt Arroyo versus Troy Mandaloniz, followed by George Sotiropoulos versus Richie Hightower. Matt Serra was put in a very difficult position – he had to decide whether to corner one of his fighters and not the other. In the end, Serra decided to not corner anybody over the two fights, while Matt Hughes cornered his assigned Team Serra member.
Before we got to the fights, was the Coach's Challenge. Dana White took everyone to a bowling alley and laid down the contest. Serra and Hughes would play one game of bowling. The winning coach would win ten thousand dollars, and each team member of the winning coach wins $1500. The coaches started practicing and, after watching Hughes suck it up, Dana White stated that if Hughes could roll a strike on his next throw, he would double the fighters' prize money. Of course, Hughes nails the strike. However, Serra edged out Hughes in the overall game, giving all his team members three grand.
The first fight was quick and relatively painless. Matt Arroyo got Troy down to the ground very early and, after some quick maneuvering, got a submission thanks to a straight arm bar. The two were very good friends in the house, and hugged it out immediately after the fight.
The second fight had George as a huge favorite over Richie. However, George got far more than he had anticipated from little Richie. The fight started with both fighters throwing big punches in the stand-up. George eventually caught a Hightower kick and took it to the ground. After a few minutes on the ground, with no one really doing much to the other, George finally got Richie to submit with an arm bar.
