John Kolosci is like a real life member of Fight Club. As a contestant on
The Ultimate Fighter 6, Kolosci was one of sixteen fighters in search of a
UFC contract. However, he was the only with a steady office career as well. John's day job is not just a day job; it's a career that pays well and one that John is good at. He doesn't need to fight. But, he likes to fight. He likes to hit people and he likes to be hit. Even though John lost to
Mac Danzig on last night's episode of
The Ultimate Fighter, we haven't heard the last from him. John stopped by earlier this morning to talk about his time on the show.
Below you will find the full mp3 audio of the interview.
Some highlights from the interview:
Jonh Kolosci has only been fighting for about four and a half years, starting when he was 27. He says that he was still getting into random fights outside of the gym and, wanting to channel that aggression, find an outlet for it, he started training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. From there, he met some people in the MMA world and started fighting in local bars and gradually moving on to bigger and better fights. Since then, he;s traveled to Atlantic City and even Japan to fight.
Trying out for The Ultimate Fighter was a long process. Jon went down to Vegas for the open try outs and, after six weeks and a bunch of different cuts, he made it to the top 16 and was on the show. It was a dream come true.
John didn't understand the negativity within the house by lots of the fighters. He was happy to be there – it was a once in a lifetime experience. And, really, it was only six weeks of his life. You can sacrifice TV, phone and books for six weeks, no problem.
John loved being on Matt Serra's team and thinks that Matt Hughes, despite being a great fighter, wasn't a very good coach. Jon stays in touch with Serra and considers him a friend.
Watching the fight last night was, for John, like seeing ti for the first time. He doesn't remember much of it. Ever since Jon left the house, he has upped his training exponentially He still remains at his day job, but all his other hours are mostly spent training. He will be fighting in the The Ultimate Fighter 6 finale.
