And yay, the list of artists for the
New Moon soundtrack
has been released! Indeed, it's gone the indie direction, after
Twilight going the more pop-rock route. Now, we've already heard of Death Cab for Cutie's contribution to the soundtrack, which'll be released as the first single, but the other fourteen songs feature a mix of artists that you've probably heard on your friendly alternative radio station, or your friendly indie MP3 blog, or maybe haven't heard at all. I'll admit I haven't heard of some of these--or didn't know it was them.
Being a closet indie kid, I couldn't be happier of the recognition, unexpected as it could be. Here goes the list, then, plus a quick introduction by way of YouTube and stock knowledge. Ready?
Death Cab for Cutie, "Meet Me At The Equinox" -
We already heard this.
Band of Skulls, "Friends" - I haven't heard of this English threesome. Will surely benefit from the exposure.
Thom Yorke, "Hearing Damage" - Best known as Radiohead's frontman, he's done solo work before,
the really glitchy electronic kind.
Lykke Li, "Possibility" - I loved the Swede's debut,
Youth Novels. Go listen to
"Little Bit" and
"Breaking It Up" for an introduction.
The Killers, "A White Demon Love Song" - I'm sure you know these guys?
Anya Marina, "Satellite Heart" - Radio DJ turned singer-songwriter off San Diego. Her songs
have appeared on Grey's Anatomy and other shows.
Muse, "I Belong To You (New Moon)" - No stranger to Twilight, yes? This is a remix of
"I Belong To You", which appears on their just-released album,
The Resistance.
Bon Iver with St. Vincent, "Rosylyn" - Justin Vernon's best known as Bon Iver, and released his debut album two years ago to blog-lovin' acclaim. Annie Clark's best known as St. Vincent, and she does really good indie pop (cue
"Marry Me").
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, "Done All Wrong" - Veterans of the Los Angeles scene, they've done five albums.
Hurricane Bells, "Monsters" - So they're an unsigned band from Longwave's Steve Schiltz? Niiice. (Although I haven't heard of Longwave either.)
Sea Wolf, "The Violent Hour" - Haven't heard of these guys either, until today.
OK Go, "Shooting the Moon" - Surely you remember
their treadmill-loving video for "Here It Goes Again"?
Grizzly Bear, "Slow Life" - Brooklyn-based indie rockers have received a lot of blog loving, thanks to their odd mix of acoustics and electronics.
Editors, "No Sound But The Wind" - British rockers inspired by Joy Division. My introduction:
"Munich".
Alexandre Desplat, "New Moon (The Meadow)" - The French composer has done the score for
Syriana and
The Queen, which earned him an Oscar nom.
