'New Moon' Breaks Midnight Screening Records
'New Moon' Breaks Midnight Screening Records
This should come as no surprise to anyone who has been keeping up with the presage numbers. New Moon is rocketing through box offices and now has the largest opening night ever. Midnight screenings across the nation were packed with giddy fangirls and fanboys alike. Summit estimates that it earned $26.3 million dollars after early morning calculations.

The previous record was held by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, set this last summer at $22.2 million dollars for its midnight openings. This only helps to fuel the Harry Potter vs Twilight rivalry that has been raging for years. Potter fans have been out numbered by New Moon fans this time and each series only has two more movies in the franchise.

Fandango reports that tickets for New Moon were selling at ten per second. Early projections have New Moon making easily 100 million plus this weekend. We'll have a better idea of the estimate after Friday's numbers come in.

I doubt New Moon will break any "opening weekend" records but it'll definitely make a chunk of change. Most diehard fans will have already seen the movie by Sunday and unfortunately, it just doesn't appeal to a wider audience. Although I will say that men are more likely to check out New Moon for the cool werewolves and promise of a fight scene or two.

What do you think? Do you think New Moon will have the biggest opening ever? Have you seen it yet? Has anyone seen it multiple times?
