'Twilight' Stars Get Bigger Projects

For most of the stars of Twilight, it’s been the biggest thing to come to them so far.  The cult classic grew to become a heavily-anticipated film, and as it keeps the top slot at the box office—and plans sequels that will hopefully do so, especially with New Moon officially greenlit—its stars have taken on other bigger roles of their own.  Indeed, Twilight has spiked up their profiles considerably.

Three of the film’s female stars have recently snagged roles in other films.  Anna Kendrick, who appears as Jessica Stanley in the romantic fantasy, is to take on the female lead in the comedy Up in the Air.  It’s a pretty big thing for the actress, as she beat many other hopefuls—including Juno’s Ellen Page and The Devil Wears Prada’s Emily Blunt—for the role, which sees her opposite George Clooney.

The film, taken from Walter Kirn’s novel of the same name, will be handled by Juno director Jason Reitman.  Kendrick will play a “career transition counselor” (in other words, someone who fires people for a living) who gets blown to the world of business travel.  No word yet as to when production for the film will begin.

Kristen Stewart and Nikki Reed, on the other hand, have signed on for roles in the prison drama film K-11.  “It’s about a little-known section of the men’s county jail,” Reed, who appears as Cullen looker Rosalie Hale, explained to MTV News.  “I’m playing a man, and Kristen’s playing a boy.”

Not much is known about the project, which will revolve on a real-life prison ward in Los Angeles used to hold gay inmates.  Also confirmed to be involved in the film are Jason Mewes, who’s appeared in several Kevin Smith films, and Jules Stewart—Kristen’s mother—who will be directing.  “I have full faith in Jules,” Reed said.  “I suppose I would be [nervous about the handling of our transformations] if it were coming from left field, but I’ve known about the script for a very long time.”

Now, that’s something for getting a real spike for your profile.  Who would’ve thought?
