Dakota Fanning is in talks to take the lead role in
The Runaways, a biopic chronicling the career of the pioneering all-girl band during the 1970s. If this sound familiar, then yes, this is the film that currently has
Twilight’s
Kristen Stewart for the role.
Before I get to the funnily trivial thought bubbles, here go the details: Fanning, who recently provided her voice to the animated film
Coraline, is set to appear as Cheri Currie, the lead singer of the rock band. Currie was 15 when she made her debut with the band, the same age as Fanning. Stewart, as we all know, is already on board as guitarist Joan Jett.
The band made it big in the mid-1970s, with their debut single “Cherry Bomb”. The group became known for their musical prowess, but their partying, drug-laden lifestyle soon caught up with them, and Currie left the group shortly before they disbanded.
Now, it’s perhaps a coincidence that Fanning and Stewart will be together in a film, considering that rumors of the former taking a role in
New Moon is still up and about.
Variety is reporting that she does have a role in the film, and
Production Weekly has listed her as part of the cast, although it’s quite intriguing to consider that there’s been no official announcement from the studios yet, and the film’s stars haven’t spoken. So, what gives?
Well, perhaps for now we can settle with the idea that a Fanning/Stewart team-up is really going to happen.
Do you think Dakota Fanning will appear on New Moon?
