ABC hour-long Ugly Betty has become the first new comedy of the Fall to get picked up for an entire season. Brought to America by Salma Hayek and based on the popular Colombian telenovela, Ugly Betty has earned rave reviews from critics and garnered a large viewer base.
Almost doubling viewers in the same time slot from last year (from 7.8 million viewers to 15.3 this year), Ugly Betty is in the running for TV's breakout hit of the new year. This success has allowed ABC to take on CBS's formidable Thursday night line-up of Survivor and CSI. With Ugly Betty now teaming up with Grey's Anatomy, ABC is in position to eventually take CBS down. Starring America Ferreira in the eponymous role, Ugly Betty chronicles the plight of a less-than-attractive woman who gets a job at a high-class fashion magazine.
