True Blood is indeed getting bigger for season 3. After a series of
casting roundups, the latest one involves James Frain being cast as vampire Franklin Mott, the HBO series has now enlisted Emmy-winning actress Alfre Woodard to play Lafayette Reynold's mom, according to
The Hollywood Reporter. As of this moment, not much has been revealed about Woodard's character but her arrival in Bon Temps will surely put an interesting spin on Lafayette, the gay cook at Merlotte's who got busted for selling vampire blood and held captive and tortured by Eric (Alexander Skarsgard). And since Lafayette and Tara (Rutina Wesley) are cousins, it's safe to assume that Tara will also be getting a visit from her aunt.
Woodard, who is represented by ICM and D/F Management, is familiar face on television, having been cast on several primetime series. She has appeared as Betty Applewhite on
Desperate Housewives, as Mavis Heller on
My Own Worst Enemy, and as Dr. Sophia Jordan on
Three Rivers. She has also recently been added to TNT's dramedy pilot,
Delta Blues, in a co-starring role opposite Jason Lee.
