Joining the fray of medical-themed series in television today is Trauma, which, says NBC, is "the first high-octane medical drama series to live exclusively in the field where the real action is."  From those who made fellow NBC product and critics' darling Friday Night Lights, Trauma takes viewers to one of the most dangerous medical professions in the world - first responder paramedics.  The NBC series stars Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Aimee Garcia, Kevin Rankin, and Jamey Sheridan as belonging to a trauma team from San Francisco General who travels by land, by sea, or by air to reach victims in time.

Zap2it reports, however, that critics haven't been nearly as kind to Trauma as they were to Friday Night Lights.  "NBC's new drama about paramedics in San Francisco looks to be a flashy mix of medical drama and action, like ER after a hypo full of adrenalin.  We're talking exploding tanker trucks, helicopter crashes, reckless driving -- pretty fun stuff."

"Do you really want to be out there, playing adrenaline cowboy?" someone is asked in the promo.  "Every day, in every emergency every life, is in their hands.  In San Francisco, there are over 200 medical emergencies everyday.  These are the men and women who answer the call.  When the worst happens, they are at their best."  Trauma also explores the lives of the people outside their job, including their families and personal problems.

Luke, 35, is best known for his film debut on the 2002 drama Antowne Fisher, the directorial debut of Denzel Washington.  Cliff Curtis, meanwhile, is a New Zealand actor who is a staple in several movies playing characters of varied ethnicities.
