Now that
Torchwood is down by two cast members, fans are wondering how the reduced alien-catching team will manage in the upcoming third season. But fans need not worry because according to the official
Torchwood Magazine from Titan Publications, the show is bringing in four new cast members to aide Captain Jack (
John Barrowman) in his action-packed battle for the future of the human race against the most wicked force.
According to
Torchwood producer Peter Bennett, Lucy Cohu, Susan Brown, Cush Jumbo, and Rik Makarem will take up roles in the five-episode serial called
Children of the Earth, which has been shooting in Cardiff since late August.
Cohu, whose credits include
Cape Wrath, Bomb Shell, The Bill and
Sweet Medicine, will play Alice, who is described as "a woman keeping many secrets from the past." On the other hand, Brown, who is known for her role as Gail Baldwin on soaps like
General Hospital and
Port Charles, has been cast to portray Bridget Spears, "a character vitally connected to the government, which plays an important part in this story."
Moreover, Harley Street's Jumbo joins the
Doctor Who spin-off as Lois Habiba, "a secretary who hacks into some vital information.” Last but not the least, Makarem, who has an upcoming film called
The Duel, appears as Doctor Rupesh Patanjali, "a junior doctor at St Helen's hospital who gets drawn into Torchwood's investigations."
"We're always proud to showcase new talent on screen," Bennett said. "And both Rik and Cush have been filming with us already, and are delivering the most brilliant material. We're all grateful to our casting director Andy Pryor for assembling so much great talent."
Additionally, Peter Capaldi, Paul Copely and Liz May Bryce will also be joining the show for the seasonal arc and will each have their own significant parts to play, particularly Bryce, whose main mission is to expose Torchwood.
