Actress
Eve Myles was born in a town called Ystradgynlais located in Wales, U.K. in the year 1978. She attended Ysgol Maes Y Dderwen, the same school where actor Steve Meo also studied. In 2000, she graduated with a bachelor's degree in acting from the Welsh College of Music and Drama, a conservatory school in Cardiff. Shortly after her graduation, she relocated to London to pursue a career in acting. Since then, she has been living her dream of performing on stage and onscreen.
Eve Myles' background in the performing arts includes acting with the National Theater of Great Britain and with the Royal Shakespeare Company. She was cast as Lavina in
Titus Androcius and as Doll Tearsheet in
Henry IV, Parts I and II.
She was seen as Paula on
Score, as Angie on the mini-series
Tales from Pleasure Beach and as Ceri on
Belonging. Her portrayal of the character Ceri earned a Best Actress nomination at the 2002 and 2003 BAFTA Cymru Awards.
Among her several other TV credits are
EastEnders: Dot's Story, Colditz, Soundproof, Trainer and
These Foolish Things.
In 2005, she portrayed Gwyneth on
Doctor Who. On the award-winning British sci-fi show, Gwyneth is a maidservant who sacrifices her life to save the humankind. Producer and writer Russell T. Davies was impressed by her acting so much that he decided to cast her for a lead role on his next project, the
Torchwood.
She was voted the seventh sexiest Welsh female celebrity on
The Western Mail's list in 2005. A year later,
Wales on Sunday proclaimed her the Bachelorette of the Year.
Gwen Cooper is played by Eve Myles on BBC's
Torchwood, a sci-fi TV drama series. The show focuses on the machinations and activities of Torchwood Institutes' Cardiff Branch. The branch works mainly on research on extraterrestrials. Ambitious and witty, Gwen is a South Wales police officer who stumbles upon the Torchwood Institute. She is recruited into the group by Captain Jack Harness.
