Good News for Tim Gunn Fans During 'Project Runway' Off-Season
It's hard to believe, but we still have several months before we will get a new season of Project Runway. However, Bravo isn't leaving fans of the show completely high and dry. Starting in September, Tim Gunn's Guide to Style will possibly help tide the fashion-focused over until Project Runway season 4 begins.

It's not quite the same as watching a gaggle of colorful characters cobble together a high-fashion dress from some car upholstery, a length of rubber hosing and a pizza box, or whatever outrageous challenge might usually be thrown at the Project Runway designers. However, if you love the part of Project Runway where Tim Gunn makes his rounds and alternates between looks of dismay towards and hyper-articulate albeit occasionally cryptic critiques of the outfits offered, this show might have something for you.

Gunn, and his partner-in-fashion Veronica Webb, will be making over the wardrobe of the subjects on his show. But, he says, it's not a typical makeover show.

"Veronica and I do not walk into our subject's house and say, 'OK, we've summed you up. You're this size. You're this shape. And if you wear these silhouettes and in these colors, then you'll be fine. Goodbye. Oh, and by the way, the van with your new wardrobe is parked in the driveway.' It's really the antithesis of that," Gunn said.

"And therefore there's a lot of emotion that is, that bubbles up in the course of doing the show," he said. "I'll give you an idea of the structure. We begin by delivering a verbal contract that says 'Are you ready to come on this journey?' Because this journey requires that you do all of the work. Veronica and I are there to support you and to help guide you, but the onus of responsibility is really on you. And it's going to be difficult. It's going to be daunting. And it's going to probably be very emotional. Are you really ready to embrace this degree of challenge?' And that's the only way we can move forward."

Despite this rather intimidating structure, co-host Webb says that Gunn's presence seems to have a salutary effect on the makeover subjects. "There's such an outpouring of love for Tim," she said. "And I think because over the last four years people have had Tim in their homes every week, people trust him. And they know that he can be incredibly critical, but never crushing. And it's really sweet to see the faces as they light up and fling open the door. It's like Obi-Wan Kenobi to the rescue."

Obi-Wan Gunn's show will be premiering on Thursday, September 6, at 10pm.
