Yesterday's episode of The Young and the Restless has set some sort of TV record.  Paul, portrayed by Doug Davidson, and Nikki, played by Melody Thomas Scott, finally had sex 30 years after the character last slept together.  The unexpected reunion occurred after Nikki stood up to Victor (Eric Braeden) for blaming her for the notebook being in Genoa City.  Shortly after, Paul offered Nikki a place to stay while she copes with the “death” of her best friend Kay (Jeanne Cooper) and recovers from her relationship with Victor.  Eventually, the two reminisced about the past, fell into a passionate kiss and the basked in the afterglow of their lovemaking.

"It's love in the purest sense," Davidson explained to TV Guide.  "They've been friends for 30 years and are supporting each other in the most intimate way possible.  They do not judge the rightness or wrongness of their actions, nor do they want to tell anyone about it.  They know their kids probably won't understand."

Davidson, who first appeared on The Young and the Restless on April 6, 1978, is also celebrating his 30th year on the CBS soap.  Initially, he was introduced on show as the son of police detective Carl Williams (played by Brett Hadley) and homemaker Mary Williams (Carolyn Conwell) who dated stripper Nikki Reed, who was then played by Erica Hope.  Despite contracting a sexually transmitted disease from her, Nikki and Paul have remained good friends over the years.

"If you'd told me back in 1978 that I'd still be doing this 30 years later, I would have freaked," he said. "But it's been great.  And, now that I'm looking back from middle age, I wouldn't change a thing."

Scott, on the other hand, will hit her 30th mark on The Young and the Restless next year.
