Robert Patrick was born on November 5, 1958 in Marietta, Georgia and was educated at Bowling Green State University. He was a track and field football athlete and had dropped out of college before graduating. He made his acting debut in
Terminator 2 and appeared in
Wayne's World, Last Action Hero, and
Walk the Line. His television appearances include
The Sopranos,
The X-Files and most recently,
The Unit. Patrick is married to actress Barbara Patrick and has two children with her.
John Jay Dogett is portrayed by Robert Patrick in the sci-fi series
The X-Files. Dogett was a sergeant in the marines before joining the FBI, and was educated at Syracuse University. He also served the NYPD before being recruited by the FBI. He graduated from the FBI Academy and then became FBI Special Agent for the Criminal Investigations Division. He was ordered to join the manhunt for Mulder but was unsuccessful, leaving him to work with Special Agent Dana Scully, whom he did not fully trust. Dogett is a no-nonsense agent who does not believe in paranormal, applying the down-to-earth sensibilities he learned as a Marine and a cop. He serves as the "skeptic" in the show. Later on he became Scully's replacement in the show, but never really fit the mold of his predecessor.
