The truth is still out there. That six-episode reboot of The X-Files from the start of 2016 wasn't a one-off, because FOX has officially renewed the show for another season. This time it will run for 10 episodes.

Original creator Chris Carter will be back, as will stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as Mulder and Scully. Production will begin this summer and it will air at some point in the 2017-2018 TV season.

The new, 10-espidoe "event series" will technically be the show's 11th season. The X-Files originally debuted almost 24 years ago.

The X-Files originally ran for more than 200 episodes in the '90s. The reboot from January 2016 delivered stellar ratings for FOX, making this renewal far more likely.
