It's time for another roundup of the most recent X Factor judge rumors - this time, we're focusing on one name in particular: Britney Spears.

Not all titles featured on BuddyTV are available through Amazon Prime.

Spears' name has been thrown around the ring, along with others like Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson (who denied the possibility) and LeAnn Rimes to replace Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul for the upcoming X Factor season. We reported a few weeks ago on the talks with Spears, who was supposedly offered $10 million for the gig but upped the request to $20 million. Afterwards, US Weekly reported that Simon Cowell had some reservations concerning the pop legend, saying "she won't be able to deliver good advice" and he was "afraid contestants won't take her seriously."

Well, it seems the tables have turned since then - the latest sources say Spears is in final negotiations with Fox and X Factor producers, now that they've settled on a reported $15 million salary, which is $3 million more than judge Jennifer Lopez gets on American Idol. Furthermore, Cowell told Chicago radio station B96 last week that they are "very, very close" to making their final decisions. He added, "I think next week, if everything goes well, we will probably announce who the two new judges are. And I'm very, very excited about what we're going to announce."

As further support that Spears will be one of those confirmed judges, Cowell has been generous in his praise of the pop icon in recent public interviews, saying he would be "fascinated to hear what she has to say" and that she has a "resilience" that will make being a judge on X Factor "a walk in the park." He also added, "she's still hot, she's still having hit records and she's still controversial. There's a reason for that."

Fellow judge L.A. Reid has said he likes the idea of Spears being a host, although he professes "I don't know. I wanna know" when it comes to actual confirmation of the new judges. He also revealed that this year the show will be allowing contestants who already have managers and agents (according to Good Day LA), a factor that prevented singers last year, citing the concept of "raising the bar of the talent."

While some insiders worry Spears might not be able to handle offering her opinion in a live reality competition setting, it seems fans are open to the celebrity making a final comeback. What do you think -- would Britney Spears make a good judge? Does this potential news make you excited for the new X Factor season?
