Melissa Fitzgerald got her television break on the NBC series
The West Wing. For 99 episodes, she portrayed Carol Fitzpatrick, the assistant to White House Press Secretary C.J. Cregg, played by Allison Janney. Despite her knack for research, she was terrible in spelling, which added comic relief to the series. At present, she's making use of her acting expertise, as well as her knack for producing, in her two upcoming films.
In the comedy drama
This Is Not a Test, the former
West Wing actress will play Wendy Romer in story about a man obsessed with his fear of a terrorist nuclear attack in Los Angeles that he eventually destroys his marriage. The film is directed by Chris Angel and is currently in post-production stages.
Currently, she is preoccupied with her documentary called
Voices of Uganda, which is her second project as a producer following the 2001 film
Listen.
Apart from her role on
The West Wing, Melissa Fitzgerald was also known for her guest roles on television, which includes an episode of
Grey's Anatomy.
More importantly, she became an active volunteer at a refugee camp in northern Uganda. This prompted her to render her experiences through a deeply moving letter, which she entered into a contest held by the New York Times. Consequently, she was declared the winner of the literary competition and earned high praises for her work.
