Emmy Award-winning American actor and screenwriter Bradley Whitford was born on October 10, 1959 in Madison, Wisconsin. He majored in Theater and English at Wesleyan University, before going on to earn a Fine Arts degree from the prestigious Juilliard School. He first performed on Broadway in the stage version of A Few Good Men. He has also acted in other television series such as ER and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and won his Emmy Award for his work in the NBC political drama The West Wing. He is married to Malcolm in the Middle star Jane Kaczmarek, and they devote their time together to their three children: George, Frances, and Mary Louisa.

Josh Lyman is played by Bradley Whitford in the Emmy Award-winning television drama series The West Wing. Born and raised in Westport, Connecticut, he was a Fulbright Scholar who graduated cum laude from Harvard University, then went on to earn a degree in law from Yale Law School. He is deeply affected by the death of his sister Joanie, especially since she died in a fire while he was very young. He is also a non-practicing Jew, and his grandfather survived the Nazi concentration camp Birkenau during World War II. Lyman is a cocky know-it-all with a charming and roguish demeanor, as well as a sharp mind.
