Entertainment Weekly exclusively revealed
the pairings for the next round of The Voice
-- the Knockouts, which begin tonight. Two singers from each team are paired up, and they'll sing a song of their choice.
Their coach will then pick the winner. And for the first time, the steal is in play in this round as well. The coaches get just one steal, so they'll have to choose wisely. They all probably have a shortlist of one to two singers that they want to use it on. It'll be interesting to see if any singer ends back on his/her original team.
Here's who we think will move on from each Knockout:
James Wolpert vs. Juhi Pathak: The four-chair turn and the singer who got stolen have been paired up. Unless James picks a terrible song and forgets the lyrics, this battle is his. I don't even think an amazing Juhi will knock off James since he'll quickly be stolen. But her unique tone will keep her around a little longer. Winner: James, with the steal used on Juhi.
Ashley DuBose vs. Tessanne Chin: Two powerhouse singers are going up against each other, and previews show that Ashley picks "Soul Sister" by Train as her song. It's either going to be a complete disaster or brilliant. I'm going with the former. Winner: Tessanne.
Lina Gaudenzi vs. Preston Pohl: Lina has only sung The Dixie Chicks -- will she make it a trifecta and sing another one of their songs? For her sake, I hope not. But there are other stronger country singers, so this is probably the end of the road for her. Besides, Adam isn't going to let Preston go. Winner: Preston.
Grey Paluszynski vs. James Irwin: Talk about a pairing I could care less about. James is the feel-good story for being the returnee who found a coach, whereas Grey is a pop singer with no standout trait. Winner: James.
Team Cee Lo
Caroline Parnell vs. George Horga Jr.: George could ride on the cute votes alone, but Caroline is a real contender for Cee Lo's team, so he's not going to get rid of her. Winner: Caroline.
Kat Robichaud vs. Monika Leigh: I still can't place Monika after two performances, which means she's on the forgettable side. Kat, meanwhile, has a ton of personality that shines through her performance. Winner: Kat.
Cole Vosbury vs. Jonny Gray: Since Jonny is Cee Lo's best chance to win next to Caroline, he'll prevail. Winner: Jonny.
Stephanie Anne Johnson vs. Tamara Chauniece: Cee Lo got a gem when he stole Stephanie Anne with the final steal. I'm just waiting for her breakout moment. Will the Knockouts be it? And we just haven't seen Tamara all that much to judge her potential. Winner: Stephanie Anne.
Anthony Paul vs. Jacquie Lee: This is the battle of the two young singers and is a toss-up. Anthony is R&B while Jacquie is in the pop mold. It doesn't really matter who the winner is since neither can win the entire thing. Winner: Jacquie.
Destinee Quinn vs. Olivia Henken: The two country singers are pitted against each other, and only one will emerge as the winner. Destinee dug deep to bring out her angry side in the Battle Rounds for "I'm Not Ready to Make Nice." While Olivia is gorgeous and a nice singer, I'm predicting the one we've seen with more emotion will move on. Winner: Destinee.
Amber Nicole vs. Josh Logan: Well, this one is a bit anti-climactic because the preview video spoiled who moved on and who was stolen. Winner: Josh, Amber Nicole stolen.
Matthew Schuler vs. Will Champlain: It'll be a great battle because Matthew's supposedly great (still don't see why he's been so hyped) while Will seems to be getting better and better. That's why whoever's the loser will get stolen. Winner: Matthew, Will stolen (again).
Briana Cuoco vs. Shelbie Z: Blake stole Briana for what I'm assuming is her last name, since I'm not a fan of her singing. Is he going to get rid of her before the live rounds or is his one female country singer going to get the boot? I'm really interested to see what happens.
EG Daily vs. Ray Boudreaux: This pair is Blake's weak link. He'll go with Ray because he's got the looks, which will equal votes. Winner: Ray.
Holly Henry vs. Nic Hawk: These two have two very distinct styles, so the battle should be fun to watch. I'll be relieved to see Holly pick a song suited to her voice and style. They won't be cutting her performance this time. Winner: Holly.
Austin Jenckes vs. Brandon Chase: Only one male country singer can move on. Winner: Austin.
