Each singer on The Voice has carved his or her path onto the show. Whether singing to the backs of chairs of famous musicians is their first performance ever or not, it's been a long journey.

The singers who advanced from this week's blind auditions joined the media in a conference call. Check out which singer forgot the lyrics during his first pre-blind audition tryout and who is out to prove people don't have to give up on their dreams.

Don't Forget the Lyrics

Jake Barker is a newbie when it comes to this whole singing in front of people business. He's posted some stuff on YouTube, but performing live? He admits to stage fright but managed to land himself on Team Usher with "When I Was Your Man." He said he kept his nerves under control by "acting."

"To be honest with you, I was terrified. It was probably the most terrifying yet exciting rush I've ever had. It was a blur," he said.

Jake said when he watched over his audition, he saw that when his nerves took over, that's when he started going off on his runs, doing way more with the song than he intended. It's something that he knows he'll have to work on for the future.

At least his story now has a happy ending, despite the nerves. Jake actually first went to the open calls for season 5, but he completely forgot the lyrics and, unsurprisingly, did not get asked to come back. But the was invited again for The Voice season 6 -- and now he's on Team Usher.

Another Shot at Stardom
Paula DeAnda already has an album behind her after recording it in her teens. She's also opened for Rhianna. So she's had a taste of the music business but wants more. She's considering herself being on a level playing field with all the other contestants despite her past experience.

"Being signed before was amazing, I loved every minute of it, but it also has its downfalls. I'm starting from the bottom up again so The Voice is the perfect platform for me for me to be on and to show people that I'm still doing it," she said.

Paula also said this will be the first time she's ever had one-on-one vocal coaching. And that'll come from Blake Shelton.

Wink and Smile

Tess Boyer is on Team Usher but was lumped into a montage of singers who advanced past the blind audition. She sang "Wings" by Little Mix -- and is a little embarrassed about what happened during her performance.

"The only thing I see in my mind is Usher's face when he turned around and I know that I pointed at him and winked at him so I'm slightly embarrassed by that--which is kind of great that they didn't show that," she said, laughing.

Usher was the only one to turn around for the pop vocalist, but that's who she wanted all along.

The Voice season 6 airs Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC.
