Since
Rosie O’Donnell left
The View in May, many fans and media outlets have aired their suggested and favored celebrities that might possibly fill in the vacant hosting spot. However, according to People magazine, producers of the ABC award winning talk show are currently contemplating on two gay men for future co-hosts.
Originally consisting of an all-female panel,
The View is now reportedly considering Mario Cantone, 47, and Ross Mathews, 27, as strong contenders who could be joining
Barbara Walters,
Joy Behar, and
Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Cantone, who played wedding planner Anthony Marantino on
Sex and the City, and Mathews, known as “Ross the Intern” on
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, will both appear as a guest co-host on July 12 and July 17 respectively.

It's too bad that the women of The View were largely rude and condescending to Ross Mathews on 7/17. I can...
According to People magazine’s informer, "Barbara's really fond of Mario. So who knows?"
On the other hand, Mathews is a good friend of O’Donnell’s given that they often appear on each other’s blogs.
In line with the possibility of having gay men as co-hosts, former
View co-host Debbie Matenopoulos already expressed her sentiments to People.
"It is high time they put a gay man on that panel. They've said 'We can't put a man here.' I disagree,” Matenopoulos said. “Why does it have to be guys against girls? I have a better time and solve more problems sitting with my gay guy friends than my girlfriends!"
While both Cantone and Mathews have not aired their comments, Bill Geddie, executive producer of
The View, admitted that the show is open to try new things.
“We are open to trying a variety of guest co-hosts who bring a unique voice to the show. Some are friends of the show, some are people we thought could mix it up, some are stunts and some are potential candidates," Geddie said.
