Bonnie and Alaric may have figured out what has a hold on Damon and Enzo on The Vampire Diaries in season 8 right now, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy to get them back. In fact, in episode 2, Enzo’s struggle to fight Sybil’s control leads to someone in danger.

In “Today Will Be Different,” Stefan, Bonnie and Caroline head to North Carolina after learning someone from the Salvatores’ past may be Damon and Enzo’s next target. Once there, Bonnie takes drastic measures to try to break Enzo free. Meanwhile, at the Armory, Alaric and Georgie find a mysterious symbol that may be related to what’s controlling the two vampires.

Enzo tells Bonnie that Sybil wants “loyal soldiers to keep bringing her supper.” Sybil asks Damon where his subconscious goes when he tries to resist her. The answer is, of course, Elena — and it looks like Sybil’s going to find that out.

Watch executive producer Julie Plec preview this TVD episode:

The episode’s title comes from the first words we heard from Elena in the pilot as she wrote in her diary. “Oh boy, will it be,” Plec teases.

In this episode, Sybil takes it upon herself to meddle with Damon’s memories. “Damon has 90% lost the battle and is just deep in his subconscious trying to hold onto those memories of Elena that make him feel good,” the EP explains.

As for her hold on Enzo, Sybil notes that she hasn’t had luck getting into his head, which is going to lead to Sarah becoming the victim. “Enzo, on the other hand, is fighting,” Plec says. “The deeper Sybil worms her way into Enzo’s head, the more he realizes, ‘I need to give her something, so that she doesn’t discover Bonnie.'”

If it’s on TV — especially if it’s a procedural or superhero show — chances are Meredith watches it. She has a love for all things fiction, starting from a young age with ER and The X-Files on the small screen and the Nancy Drew books. Arrow kicked off the Arrowverse and her true passion for all things heroes. She’s enjoyed getting into the minds of serial killers since Criminal Minds, so it should be no surprise that her latest obsession is Prodigal Son.
