Bonnie was placed center stage this week on The Vampire Diaries as her witch ancestry came into play.  Her long-gone relative Emily, Katherine's hand maiden, returns to stop Damon's Diabolical Master Plan, which is revealed.

Elsewhere, Aunt Jenna gets a new boyfriend in the form of new history teacher Alaric Saltzman, a man who wears big rings and doesn't come in unless he's invited.  But that's the least of Jenna's relationship problems.

Bonnie's Dream in a Dream

The opening scenes of The Vampire Diaries are always surprisingly creepy, and this was no exception.  Bonnie left her classroom and followed her witch ancestor Emily into the woods in a scene that felt right out of A Nightmare on Elm Street.  After Emily scared her, Bonnie woke up in class, but then she turned around to see Emily and woke up again, this time in the woods.  It was haunting, eerie and a great twist to open the episode.

Caroline's Lame Girl Moves

As much as I love all the vampire stuff, I find myself more than happy with Caroline.  She's a funny, flighty character and, in almost every way imaginable, she's exactly like Harmony from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  Seeing her either fight with her girlfriends or awkwardly flirt with Matt is fantastic.

The Alluring Alaric

The new teacher was certainly not a disappointment as Matthew Davis showed up as Alaric Saltzman, the charming new teacher who befriends Jeremy and flirts with Aunt Jenna.  Of course, his giant ring that's a family heirloom and his reticence to enter Jenna's home uninvited are clues that he's a vampire, but they're so obvious that I highly doubt he really is one.

Bringing Katherine Back

After an episode full of mind games between Stefan and Damon, we finally got the full story, and it's a doozy.  Emily used her magic to help Damon save Katherine by locking her in a special tomb in the church and the necklace is how he can open it and bring Katherine back to life.  Well, at least that's what he tells Stefan.  The real story is that Emily locked Katherine along with the 26 OTHER vampires that were in the burning church, so Damon wants to release a mini vampire army for revenge.

Biting Bonnie

Once again The Vampire Diaries shocked me with Damon taking a big bite out of Bonnie after she successfully destroys the necklace and any hopes Damon had of freeing the 27 vamps.  Bonnie was fine, but the fallout included Stefan and Damon deciding to leave town and Elena finally telling Bonnie the truth about vampires.

Her Boyfriend's Back

If you thought last week's shocking sudden ending was a twist, this week The Vampire Diaries added a new level.  Aunt Jenna answered the door, and there waiting for her was none other than Logan.  Dead Logan.  Yes, the former Council member and vampire hunter is now another vampire in town.  Let the mayhem begin.

Next week on The Vampire Diaries: It's the mid-season finale, so expect lots of craziness, including HOT VAMPIRE SEX!
