Tonight marks the official start of The Vampire Diaries marathon, the special week-long CW event that gives fans the opportunity to relive the vampire saga from the very beginning. Starting at 8pm, the network will rebroadcast every episode of its smash hit series in consecutive order, airing two episodes each night until Friday, December 18.
Based on the best-selling series of books by L. J. Smith, The Vampire Diaries
is the story of two vampire brothers vying for the same beautiful girl, and battling to control the fate of an entire town. In the "Pilot," we meet 17-year-old Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) and her 15-year-old brother, Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), who are still adjusting to the reality after a tragic car accident killed their parents four months ago.
Elena is supported by best friend Bonnie (Katerina Graham), frenemy Caroline (Candice Accola) and former boyfriend Matt (Zach Roerig) and eventually finds comfort in a handsome and mysterious new student, Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley), who is hiding a dark secret. Jeremy, on the other hand, finds himself falling for Matt's sister, Vicki (Kayla Ewell), who is suddenly rejecting him and hanging out with his rival, Tyler (Michael Trevino).
Unfortunately for these residents of Mystic Falls, Stefan's older wicked brother, Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder), has returned to town, putting everyone's lives in danger.
