For the past several weeks, we've been putting the spotlight on Elena (Nina Dobrev), Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder). But The Vampire Diaries has other personalities that are just as intriguing. After the tree main characters, you'd probably want to set your sights on Elena's younger brother, Jeremy. He's also one of the regulars, which means he's got a lot of layers to uncover and he's on every episode of the show.

Unlike the novels of L.J. Smith where in Elena has a little sister named Margaret, The Vampire Diaries has taken a different turn by adding a troubled younger brother instead. Steven R. McQueen, who plays Jeremy, describes his character as "pretty much a very destructive kid, he's got addiction problems. He's got a lot of different problems and he finds different ways to vent his pain than most would. He lashes out at everyone around him."

But Jeremy hasn't always been on a dangerous and self-destructive path. Evidently, it all started when his and Elena's parents died in a car crash. And now we see him struggling to settle into a new domestic situation under their aunt Jenna's roof.

Unfortunately, getting caught in shady dealings is just one of Jeremy's issues on The Vampire Diaries. He also get's involved, though not directly, in "all the vampire stuff that starts happening."

"My character, he's not a vampire, but he's got all the attributes: he's pale, he looks like he hasn't slept in a while. So he becomes the guilty-seeming figure when he's mad. But a lot of vampires are naturally beautiful and look very together and are trying to get away with everything. I'm the rebel without a cause," Mcqueen said.

The Vampire Diaries premieres Thursday, September 10 on The CW.
