There are still a couple of months to go before The Vampire Diaries season 6 premieres, and we already know information about quite a few new recurring characters joining the CW series. Six out of seven will be introduced in the premiere. Will all of them survive their stays? Probably not.

First up, thanks to tweets from Julie Plec and Colin Ferguson, we found out that the Eureka actor will be appearing as a character named Tripp, and TV Guide has revealed a bit more about his character. Tripp is a strong, disciplined head of a community militia, a surrogate father to his young trainees and someone who will do anything to protect his town. Thanks to Plec's tweet, we also know "He's in town to give Sheriff Forbes a run for her money."

Next up, Entertainment Weekly announced that Jodi Lyn O'Keefe is playing Jo, the series' newest doctor. Jo is "a tough and accomplished doctor at the university hospital" who "demands excellence from her students and has learned the hard way that there's no room for error in her profession." It hasn't been revealed how long she'll be around. Who's going to be the unlucky one to need medical help when the season begins?

The Wrap reports that Marco James will be recurring as Liam, an attractive and smart upperclassman at Whitmore. He is a "cocky yet good-natured" med student from a family of doctors. Will he and Jo have more in common than medicine? The Wrap has also reported that Jayson Warner Smith will be playing a guy who runs a high-end hot rod shop for at least two episodes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Emily C. Chang is playing Ivy, "the quintessential girl next door with an unexpected wild side."

Deadline has revealed that Gabrielle Walsh has been cast as Sarah, a character with spunk, street smarts and a shady agenda who comes to Mystic Falls.

Finally, TV Guide reports that Chris Wood will be joining the cast in the third episode as Kai, "a charmingly unstable newcomer with the unsettling ability to seem normal as the situation demands." He can be playful and obsessive, with a mix of adolescent angst. He's the quintessential CW character!

The Vampire Diaries season 6 premieres Thursday, October 2 at 8pm on the CW.
