Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder welcomed their first child on July 25. According to E! News, the couple named their daughter Bodhi Soleil Reed Somerhalder.

The Vampire Diaries actor and the Twilight actress got married in April 2015 following roughly nine months of dating. They announced their pregnancy in May via social media.

"I know you, but only because I feel you. How is it possible to love someone so much already? All I know for sure is it's the strongest feeling I've ever felt," Reed captioned her baby bump photo on Instagram. "We've been sharing this body for quite some time, and we've already experienced so much together. We can't wait to meet you...Love your parents."

"To our friends, family, and rest of the world. In my 38 years on this earth I've never experienced anything more powerful and beautiful than this. I can't think of anything more exciting than this next chapter and we wanted you to hear this from us first," Somerhalder posted on Instagram.

Prior to giving birth, Reed shared her thoughts on her pregnancy as a first time mom. The 29-year-old actress, musician, writer and activist seemed to have enjoyed her journey, describing herself as chill and relaxed.

"Ian jokes that he wants to keep me pregnant forever. I'm a very driven person with lots of energy. I can run multiple companies, read four books at once, and take a conference call while cooking dinner. But pregnant, I'm a better version of myself. I'm really chill and relaxed, which I think is the greatest blessing," she told Fitpregnancy.com.

Reed is also more confident about her body than ever before. "As an actress, I'm surrounded by chatter about my body. How do I look on the red carpet? Whose dress am I wearing? I've always rebelled against that, but being pregnant has given me this new and powerful appreciation for my body," she said. "Why do I suddenly have this layer of fat? Oh, it's because my body needs to create breast milk. Why am I hungry and thirsty? Because my body is creating amniotic fluid. I want to write my pregnant body love letters, it's so f*cking cool!"

As for Somerhalder, the first time dad says he's no stranger to the messes that comes along with parenting thanks to his experience with animals.

"To get up in the middle of the night to bottle feed eight kittens that would die without you, it gives you a sense of what it's like to care for something that depends on you for its survival," Somerhalder told People about his duties as a cat dad. "It's a very special thing. It's a great beginner's course."

"I've learned to smile through cleaning endless amounts of poop and pee," he continued.

While Somerhalder admits that taking care of animals is not the same as taking care of a child, there are "endless reasons that compassion for an animal can literally change the course of your life."
