Showtime recently released a Behind the Scenes look at their upcoming comedy series
United States of Tara. Before this 4 minute preview, little was known about the series. We knew about
Toni Collette,
John Corbett, Steven Spielberg, and Diablo Cody (Academy-award winning writer of
Juno). We knew that the series revolved around a housewife named Tara who suffers from dissociative identity disorder.
According to the trailer, Tara and Max live in Kansas with their two teenage kids, Kate and Marshall. The family is also helped out by Tara's sister Charmaine, played by
Rosemarie DeWitt. As DeWitt explains it, "Everyone wants Tara to be okay. Sometimes she's not, but that's something that happens in every family."
The multiple personalities of Tara are also revealed. There's the teenage rebel, T. Collette says "T is just a hornbag who wants to hump everything." Buck is Tara's male "alter" who thinks that his man-parts were shot off in Vietnam. The last personality is Alice, who is the extremely feminine housewife.
It's not difficult to see where the comedy will come from in
United States of Tara. Toni Collette, who is an amazing actress, can definitely bring these different characters to life. I'm curious to see how Buck and Max will interact. I'm guessing a sort of bromance would be a hilarious option, but who knows.
The one thing that I was worried about before seeing this preview was Tonie Collette and John Corbett's chemistry. I love John Corbett so much and I know any
Sex and the City fan would want to see him in a romantic role once again. From the few short clips of the couple, it's obvious that Collette and Corbett click. Their interactions seem so honest and loving. Check it out in the Behind the Scenes clip below.
Can you see Corbett and Collette as a couple?
