Fans of the CBS military drama,
The Unit, got wind of some extremely gratifying news by the middle of last week. The series was among a host of shows CBS deemed fit for renewal. The official word came just as some of the stars of the series were returning from a weekend of spreading goodwill and cheer to United States troops stationed in Kuwait and Iraq.
The Unit got the nod for another run along with comedy favorites
How I Met Your Mother and
The New Adventures of Old Christine.

hmmmm, well I lost interest in this show last season so I will skip it in favor of better shows on Sundays....
The Unit and
The New Adventures of Old Christine were 25th-hour renewals, with CBS waiting till the afternoon of Tuesday, May 12, to give producers of the two shows a ring to officially let them out of the misery of waiting. Those that did not receive CBS' wave of the proverbial wand of favor were the
James Woods-led legal drama,
Shark, and the freshman vampire detective vehicle,
Moonlight.
Well, one show's loss is another one's gain. That's the business of primetime television and that's just how the programming cookie crumbles. In the realm of CBS scheduling, that means
The Unit gets to live and breathe its new lease on life where
Shark bids farewell tonight. Yes, the next edition of
The Unit will air Sunday nights at 10, the slot previously held by
Shark for a brief spell. In its new time slot,
The Unit will follow another renewed series, the Philadelphia-set procedural
Cold Case.
In other news,
The Color of Freedom, starring none other than
The Unit's Dennis Haysbert, is due out today on DVD. In the film, Haysbert, who plays Sergeant Major Jonas Blane on
The Unit, brings life to the iconoclastic Nelson Mandela. Co-starring as a prejudiced white African who goes on a journey of self-discovery through his friendship with Mandela is
Joseph Fiennes.
