The new season of CBS' action-drama series,
The Unit, begins airing tonight with the first hour of the two-part third season premiere.
The opening episode, "Pandemonium, Part One," will have Ryan attempting to put the team back together, while Jonas runs from a dangerous assassin. Meanwhile, Bob may be working as a double agent. Guest stars include Carlos Lacamara as Luis Reale, Chris Ellis as Congressman Bruce Gelber, Conor O'Farrell as General Heath, Michael O'Neill as Ron Cheals and Rebecca Pidgeon as Charlotte Canning-Ryan.
Based on producer Eric Haney's book
Inside Delta Force,
The Unit is centered on a top-secret military organization whose primary task is counterterrorism. The team is led by Sergeant Major Jonas “Snake Doctor” Blane, played by
Dennis Haysbert (
24). The cast also includes
Scott Foley (
Felicity) as Staff Sergeant Bob “Cool Breeze” Brown,
Michael Irby as Charles Grey,
Regina Taylor (
I'll Fly Away) as Molly Blane,
Audrey Marie Anderson (
Without a Trace) as Kim Brown and Abby Brammel (
CSI, Six Feet Under) as Tiffy Gerhardt.
In an interview with
The Early Show's Hannah Storm, Haysbert revealed some details about the
The Unit's third season, including who the mystery assassin might be.
“It's a CIA hitman… somebody working with the secret government,” Dennis Haysbert said. “They don't want us around.”
The 53-year-old actor also said he lost 25 pounds and shaved off four inches from his waist as preparation for
The Unit's action-packed third season.
“This is going to be a very intense… [and] very physical season… and a much more
Bourne Identity [and]
Bourne Ultimatum-kind of season,” Dennis Haysbert told Storm. “We're going to get out of the battlefield and more into the cities and around the world. [There's going to be] a lot of espionage. We're talking
Bond-esque.”
As for the show's army wives, played by Taylor, Anderson and Brammel, Haysbert said they will be getting into more of the action this season as well.
“[In the beginning,] they start helping us in a roundabout way,” he said. “We enlist Kim… then the girls just sort of want to know where we are. They know we're all on the run [and that] a couple of us are in jail.”
The first part of
The Unit's two-episode season 3 premiere airs tonight at 9pm on CBS.
