Abby Brammell Talks About Her Character on 'The Unit'

the unitAside from the top-secret military group that embarks on dangerous missions abroad, the appeal of The Unit also comes from wives of the team members and how they deal with their lives as part of the military.

Among the female cast members of The Unit, Abby Brammell has distinctly established herself as Tiffy Gerhardt, the wife of MacDonald Gerhardt (Max Martini) who is hiding her own dark secrets.  Though she has played various roles on Six Feet Under, The Shield, Birds of Prey, and CSI, just to name a few, Brammell says that there's something special about playing Tiffy that has attracted her more with the role.

“She's so troubled.  I really gravitate towards the troubled, soul-searching character.  I really like she was caught up in the affair and she was struggling with right and wrong.  And also that she's married to a soldier.  That seemed really fantastic to me.  I've always loved the kind of archetype of the warrior, so to be a warrior's lady, is like pretty great, too,” Brammell told TVaddict.com.

According to Brammell, she also enjoys the fact that her character is little bit reckless and wild, as well as driven to experience life to its fullest.

On The Unit, Brammell has had her share of troubles as a sexy housewife who had an affair with her husband's commanding officer when her husband was on assignment and at one time was physically abused.  She also almost had an affair with a lawyer she was doing community service for which would go into affecting her decision to leave during the show's second season finale.

Despite the lies and the blunders of Tiffy, Brammell has learned to accept her character and portray her as effectively as possible.

“You have to kind of let go of what you think is right and wrong, and really just deal with trying to love your character.  And accept them for who they are with all of the terrible mistakes they make.  And not judge them.  You really can't judge your characters...you just have to love them and try to portray them as honest as possible.  It's hard,” she explained.

Catch Abby Brammell on The Unit every Tuesday at 9pm ET/PT on CBS.
