Maria Doyle Kennedy Biography:

Born in 1964, Maria Doyle Kennedy is a singer and an actress from Ireland, United Kingdom. She made quite an impact with her performance in the films The Commitments and The General, and has also achieved success in the small screen with her work on the shows Oliver Twist, Queer as Folk (British version) and Hide and Seek. As a singer, Kennedy recorded two albums with the musical group, The Black Velvet Band, and in 2001, came out as a solo artist with the highly-praised album, Charm. Currently, Kennedy can be seen in the Showtime miniseries, The Tudors. She married Kieran Kennedy in 1992.

Queen Katherine of Aragon is portrayed by Maria Doyle Kennedy on the show, The Tudors. As King Henry VIII’s first wife, one of Queen Katherine’s main responsibilities is to bear a male heir for her royal husband. However, her inability to do so has led King Henry the VIII to believe that their marriage is cursed and has also driven him to pursue Anne Boleyn, one of Queen Katherine’s lady-in-waiting.
