Born on July 27, 1977 in County Dublin, Ireland, Jonathan Michael Francis O'Keeffe spent much of his time hanging out in pool halls since he got expelled from school at the age of 16. Later, he was encouraged by a casting agent to pursue acting and shortly landed a role in the movie A Man of No Importance. Eventually, he graced the television loop, appearing in series like Gormenghast and Elvis where he portrayed Elvis Presley which earned him an Emmy nomination and a Golden Globe award. His other credits included Velvet Goldmine, Ride with the Devil, Happy Now, Match Point, and Octane just to name a few.
Playing King Henry VIII on the television series The Tudors allows Meyers to portray a historic character that is multi-talented and very powerful. His inclusion on the show also enables him to further promote his dramatic and artistic acting expertise.
