The Sopranos is an American television drama broadcast on HBO about a fictional Italian-American Mafia family in Northern New Jersey. The critically acclaimed award winning show, created by David Chase, returns for the second part of its sixth season.
The Sopranos takes into view the American family, the Italian-American community and most especially the Mafia lifestyle. It also revolves around issues of morality and extreme violence mixed up with strong language, nudity and drug use. Taking the lead in the series is Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) with his wife Carmela (Edie Falco) and children Meadow (Jamie-Lynn Sigler) and AJ (Rovert Iler). As the boss of the DiMeo Crime Family, he tries to balance the conflicting requirements of his home life and the criminal organization he heads. His gang mainly comprises of Christopher Moltisanti (Michael Imperioli), Paulie Walnuts (Tony Sirico), Furio Giunta (Federico Castelluccio) and Silvio Dante (Steve Van Zandt). Dealing with countless anxiety attacks, Tony seeks the help of psychiatrist Dr. Jennifer Melfi (Lorraine Barcco). He is faced with new challenges and realities regarding his relationship with Carmela, his children and the always-tense relations between the strained New Jersey and New York families. The Sopranos is a production of HBO Original Programming, Brad Grey Television and Chase Films. The show's executive producers are David Chase, Brad Grey, Ilene S. Landress, Terence Winter. It airs Sundays 9 PM on HBO starting April 8, 2007.
