After raking in over $500 million at the worldwide box office, the nearly 20 years in the making
Simpsons full-length motion picture will soon conquer home theaters with its release on DVD and high definition format next month.
The Simpsons Movie is scheduled to come out on both DVD and Blu-Ray Disc (BD) on separate launch dates for North America and the rest of the globe.
Internationally,
The Simpsons Movie DVD and BD are set to hit video stores as early as December 3. Its North America release follows two weeks later on December 18.
Having taken 18 years to make, the first and so far, only
Simpsons Movie ever was dubbed by the
Washington Post as "one of the best movies of the year" while
Time Magazine said it was "well worth waiting for." Released in July of this year, it brought to widescreen life, the full extent of Homer's idiocy and penchant for the most mundane of life-threatening blunders. In the film, Homer and his brand new pet pig accidentally set off a major ecological disaster in Springfield. It is up to the bungling Simpsons patriarch to find a way to undo the mess he's made and save his family, community and even the rest of the world.
Aside from its long-standing regular voice cast made up of Dan Castellanata, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Harry Shearer, Pamela Hayden, Tress MacNeille and Hank Azaria,
The Simpsons Movie also featured the guest voice works of Oscar nominee Albert Brooks, rock group Green Day and double Oscar winner Tom Hanks.
The single disc
Simpsons Movie DVD is chock-full of bonus features like commentaries from the actors, writers, producers and directors of the show. It also showcases deleted scenes as well as promotional spots like The Simpsons Judge American Idol and Homer's Monologue on
The Tonight Show.
