Strike Delays Talks for 'Simpsons' Film Sequel

More than half a year has passed since the big screen adaptation of The Simpsons came out and became a box office success, but the much-talked about sequel still has yet to hit the drawing board.  At the root of the delay is the ongoing WGA strike.

“At the moment we have a little situation, a little labor dispute,” series director David Silverman told MTV recently.  “It has put things on hold.”

The sequel is not the only thing being affected by the walkout.  As previously reported, The Simpsons is one of the many television programs that are in danger of ending the season prematurely and with fewer episodes than usual.

Despite the disruption that the strike has caused, Silverman pledged his full support for the industry scribes.
“I'm there for the writers too. When that's resolved we'll see some movement in that direction,” Silverman told MTV with a smile. “It's kind of hard to make predictions about the future.”

Talks on the The Simpsons Movie sequel should start when a settlement has been reached, which could be pretty soon, as indicated by recent reports.  However, considering all the show's talents will be devoting their time working n the long-running cartoon, it could take several more years before another movie can hit the screen.

“As Homer would put it, ‘I don't know',” Silverman said when asked about when the sequel might be completed.

For now, fans of the show will have to settle for seeing their favorite yellow family on the small screen. There are still several new episodes that have yet to be aired, although viewers will have to wait another week to catch another fresh installment.

“Love, Springfieldian Style,” one of the pre-strike episodes, will not air until February 17, in keeping with Valentine's Day programming.  The episode follows Homer, Marge and Bart as they trade love stories while stuck in a Tunnel of Love ride at a carnival.
