Those rooting for Prime Minister Gordon Brown to follow in Tony Blair's footsteps and make an appearance on
The Simpsons will be disappointed to know that the 56-year-old British official has declined to do so.
"I think Tony Blair did that, I don't think that is for me," Brown told GMTV television, insisting also that he would not appear on any music talent competition or ballroom dancing shows.
Blair's episode, "The Regina Monologues," followed the Simpsons family as they traveled to London, where they were greeted by Blair. The show's dim-witted patriarch,
Homer Simpson, then mistook him for the fictional bumbling British television character, Mr. Bean.
According to
Digital Spy, Blair recorded his part in secret at 10 Downing Street, which serves as the Prime Minister's office and home.
Talks of Brown's possible appearance on FOX's long-running animated series began earlier this year, but in July, show creator Matt Groening said Brown would not be appearing on the series because they have “reached the quota of British Prime Ministers” they are supposed to have on the show.
"We have one per century - I think that's our rule,” Groening told the
Radio Times. “Sorry, Gordon Brown, it's too late!"
Late last month however,
Simpsons voice actor Yeardley Smith said she believes it would be a good idea to invite Brown to make a cameo appearance like Blair.
"It would be great if Gordon Brown did it. Tony Blair was great fun when he appeared,” Smith, who voices child prodigy
Lisa Simpson on the series, said. "Let's face it, Gordon could be around for a long time too."
Smith also said that in the event Brown refuses to appear in
The Simpsons, they can always get a voice actor who can mimic his voice.
Now it seems they're going to have to do just that, if, of course, they decide to include Brown in any future episodes of
The Simpsons.
