In the long history of The Simpsons, Mother's Day always reminds me of one special episode and one special moment. In the season 7 episode “Home Sweet Home-Diddily-Dum-Doodily,” Homer and Marge are deemed unfit parents and their kids are sent to foster care, living with the Flanderses. Though Bart and Lisa resist, Maggie quickly becomes emotionally attached to Ned and Maude.

At the very end of the episode, Maggie is faced with the ultimate choice: Is she a Flanders or a Simpson? Ned and his family are shown in a happy forest with bunnies and other playful woodland creatures, while Homer, Bart and Lisa are sitting in a mucky swamp with a frog. Maggie seems to make her choice, walking to join the Flanders flock, when she sees Marge come around the corner. Instantly, and without thought, Maggie rushes to her mother, who swoops her up and gives her a great big hug. It's a near-perfect mother/daughter moment.
