As we
told you earlier,
The Simple Life star
Paris Hilton asked her fans to help her get a pardon after being sentenced to forty-five days in jail for driving with a suspended driver’s licence. (Her license was suspended after a reckless driving charge involving alcohol.) She hoped to make a request to the governor to avoid jail time entirely.
But California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger says he’s got more important things to do than think about Paris Hilton’s impending jail sentence.
"I've never got any request," Schwarzenegger told reporters, when asked if he would give Hilton a pardon. "But I have many more important things to think about."
However, she probably won’t spend the whole forty-five days in jail. For one thing, she’ll probably get time off for good behavior. As well, overcrowding in Los Angeles County jails means that female inmates are quite likely to serve only a small percentage of their time.
Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said "our jail is bursting at the seams," and added that some women inmates have been released after serving only ten percent of their sentence.
Whitmore said of
The Simple Life star Hilton’s possible jail time, "It's possible that it could be 21 days, 23 days. It's a complicated formula that the state sets down. It's possible that she could do less time."
Whitmore also said that no matter how much time Hilton spends incarcerated, she won’t get special treatment. "She's going to be treated like any other low-level security risk."
Will her jail time interfere with the upcoming season of
The Simple Life? Well, they’re already finishing shooting. However, she and her co-star
Nicole Ritchie were supposed to do various promotional events for the launch of the season, including the Late Show with David Letterman and Regis & Kelly. Looks like Nicole Ritchie will probably be on her own.
