The Simple Life star Nicole Richie had been noted for many controversial issues such as driving under the influence, possession of drugs, and her eating disorder among others. Most recently, the 25-year old actress caught the media’s attention with her controversial party invitation.

On May 28, 2007, The Simple Life star, invited her friends to a Memorial Day barbeque through an e-mail invitation, which she claimed to be a joke.

"Let's glorify this day in your sluttiest tops and your tightest pair of Tsubi jeans, even though we have no clue what Memorial Day really means!!" she wrote in the e-mail. "There will be a scale at the front door. No girls over 100 pounds allowed in. Start starving yourself now. See you all then!!!"

The said e-mail instantly leaked to bloggers, who perceived that Richie was making fun of both Memorial Day and her own weight issues.

In the spring of 2006, Richie made media headlines with a dramatically thinner appearance and admitted that she was seeking treatment for what her representative claimed to be her “inability to put on weight.”

Consequently after the leakage, many frowned upon Richie’s invitation. In effort to redeem herself, she told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio program that she doesn’t understand the controversy. She said, "I mean, it rhymes. Are you really going to take an e-mail that rhymes that seriously? And it's a private e-mail to my friends. I was joking and I don't think there's anything wrong with it."

In the same party, former The O.C. actress Mischa Barton collapsed and was sent to the hospital reportedly due to a bad reaction to the medication she was taking for bronchitis.
