Paris Hilton of
The Simple Life will be released from Lynwood’s Century Regional Detention Facility tomorrow, and CNN’s Larry King is set to conduct the sought-after post-jail interview.
Previously, ABC and NBC had been in the middle of a heated competition for the said interview, with both networks offering big deals in the hopes of booking the particular ratings topper.
Initially, it was expected that
The View co-host and long-time broadcast journalist
Barbara Walters would land the interview with
The Simple Life star, having not only received a personal phone call from Hilton on June 10th, but also for her close friendship with Hilton’s mother, Kathy.
ABC news also offered a modest sum of $100, 000 for the rights to family photos and videos, but this figure was far from what the NBC network was reportedly offering for the exclusive interview. According to the New York Post, The Peacock network drew up a deal worth almost $1 million. NBC News has insisted that they do not pay for interviews.
When reports about the supposed NBC deal came out, the Hilton family was placed on the receiving end of bad publicity. The family was perceived as trying to turn a profit for
The Simple Life star’s incarceration.
The surge of negative publicity caused the Hiltons to resume talks with ABC, but on Friday, the network ultimately decided to let go of the exclusive interview. NBC followed suit later the same day.
With regards to her interview with King, Hilton released a statement through her publicist, saying, “I am thrilled that Larry King has asked me to appear on his program to discuss my experience in jail, what I have learned, how I have grown and anything else he wants to talk about.” The said interview, for which King’s spokeswoman said no compensation was received, will air Wednesday at 9pm ET.
