The Shot: Judge Italo Gregorio Gives Tips for Curly Hair

The season of VH1's fashion photography show The Shot ended last week, and the winner, Maria, will now have the opportunity to shoot a Victoria's Secret catalog spread. She might be working with one of the shows judges: Italo Gregorio has worked with Victoria's Secret, and he seems to be the go-to guy for sexy hair.

If you have curly hair, and are looking for a new, sexy way to do your 'do, Italo has some tips to help you achieve just that.

Working with the inspiration of a 50's pin-up girl, and adding a quirky twist inspired by a 2006 show with designer Betsey Johnson, The Shot judge came up with a process for achieving a look that while sexy, “still [has] a little bit of oddness, though…You don't want it to be too pretty…it has to be a little bit sexy, quirky.” Instead of innocently pretty, he was looking for the final result to be “sort of naughty.”

After applying mousse to the ends and the roots, he would use a small curling iron to make curls, moving from back to front, and letting the curls set for about 10 to 15 minutes. In order to avoid having the hair drop, he sets them in clips temporarily.

When ready to finish, he says the method is to “spray it, take it down and break up the curls with fingers and a comb to give the hair the shape that we want, teasing in the root area.”

Reviewing the process, The Shot judge says the steps are really quite simple: “Use a mousse and go over the hair in inch sections. Use a curling iron, pin up the curls, let it cool, spray it, take it down, and tousle it with your hands.”

So even if you might not be heading out to the beach to star in a photo shoot in your bikini any time soon, you can still take advantage of his tips to achieve sexy curly hair.
