The Shield, the series known for its controversial portrayal of corrupt police officers, returns tonight for its seventh and final season.  Last season, Vic and Detective Ronnie Gardocki learned that Shane killed Lem, which ultimately destroyed Shane's relationship with the rest of the Strike Team.

Now, Vic faces threats from all directions, first and foremost from his damaged protégé Shane, as well as Captain Claudette Wyms, who is on the brink of pushing him off the force so she can clean up Farmington without the tinge of police corruption.

Read on for a preview of The Shield's season 7 opener entitled “Coefficient of Drag.”

The first episode of the final season of The Shield starts with Vic challenging Shane while dealing with threats to his family.  Vic, Shane, Ronnie and Aceveda must now work together to play both sides against each other, in attempt to escape with their badges as well as their lives.  Shane, on the other hand, is threatened to reveal all the past crimes of the Strike team to Internal Affairs, should Vic hurt Shane or his family.

Meanwhile, a federal agent arrives in Farmington to investigate a recent wave of violence.  As for the rest of the team, Dutch becomes increasingly obsessed with stopping a teenager who appears to be on the verge of becoming a serial killer, while Claudette Wyms continues to struggle with the effects of her medical condition.

How will it end for Detective Vic Mackey?  Catch the seventh and final season of The Shield premiering tonight at 10pm on FX.  The show stars Benito Martinez as David Aceveda, Catherine Dent as Danielle "Danny" Sofer, Cathy Cahlin Ryan as Corrine Mackey, CCH Pounder as Claudette Wyms, David Rees Snell as Ronnie Gardocki, Jay Karnes as Holland "Dutch" Wagenbach, Michael Chiklis as Vic Mackey, Michael Jace as Julien Lowe, and Walton Goggins as Shane Vendrell.
