Malik Cooper was featured as a member of the cast in the tenth season of the MTV reality television series The Real World, titled Back to New York. He is a native of Berkeley, California who was born the biracial son of a black father and a white mother. With a strong intent and desire to find success in his life, he worked hard and eventually became the first member of his family to attend college, as well as the only one among his friends to do so. Cooper went on to pursue higher learning at the reputed University of California at Berkeley.
But on the other hand, he also knows how to have a good time, instead of simply working all the time and not enjoying himself at all. One of his passions is music, which has helped him gain a reputation as a deejay for clubs and parties in the Bay Area. During his stint on the show, Cooper helped his fellow African-American cast member Coral Smith to correct their housemate Mike Mizanin on his controversial racist views, helping educate him and teaching him more about African-American culture. However, Cooper was himself criticized for wearing a t-shirt that depicted Marcus Garvey, an African-American who was against races mixing.
