Alex Smith is the “playboy” of
The Real World:Denver house. While this might be partially due to MTV’s editing, Alex does admit that it is a part of his personality. Alex took time from his schedule of procrastination to talk to BuddyTV about his love triangle with
Colie and
Jenn, his attempt to escape all of the drama, and who he disliked the most in the house.
BuddyTV: Can you just tell us how you ended up on the Real World? Was it something that you always wanted to do?
Alex: No, it wasn’t. I was just at a fundraising car wash and my buddy Brett kind of dragged me in there and it just took off from there.
What was your first impression of your housemates upon arrival?
Usually when I first meet people, I’m not like thinking of like, “oh, what do they look like or what are they saying?” I’m mainly just memorizing their names. So I don’t mess it up later and I usually mess that up too. So my first impression was that everyone seemed really happy and really excited to start this little adventure, I guess you’d call it.
Was there anyone that you were immediately drawn to?
Um, no. I would not say so.
Okay. Well that house seems very sexual, is that true?
Um, the house being sexual…there were a few light sockets that I got intimate with but as far as the housemates and everything, yeah, I would agree with that.
You’ve been portrayed as the “playboy” of the house. Is that an accurate assessment of your personality or was the result of editing?
Um, I would say it’s a good part of it. It’s an accurate portrayal of that little part of my personality but I wouldn’t say it like, characterizes me. If that’s what you’re asking. Does that make any sense or am I just rambling?
No, that makes perfect sense. I think everybody is probably a little enhanced by the editing but all facets of the personality.
Yeah.
So especially from last week’s episode, and I’m sure it will continue, there was an intense amount of drama. Is that really something that’s constant or do you think they pick and choose those moments?
Well for the first half of the time we were there it was definitely constant. And then I tried to hide and avoid all of it. I think
Stephen was doing a better job of it than I was and I tried to copy him. It was definitely really stressful to live there, I guess for the first six weeks.
How did the people of Denver respond to you when you were out and about; and the show and the cameras and things like that?
Well I know that
Tyrie and Stephen and basically every single roommate had like an altercation with somebody in Denver. I guess I was the only one that didn’t. And the only things that I really heard that were negative was like people after the bars, coming out all wasted like, “Yeah, fuck the Real World, blah, blah, blah.” And I would just be like well, “I’d say the same thing if I were wasted and they were in my city.” So I didn’t really think that was a big deal.
There was a lot of drinking on the show. How much do you think that affected your actions?
Well, to be perfectly honest, a lot, because I drank a lot. I don’t think I would have been in nearly as many altercations if I hadn’t been drinking but then again, either way, yeah, so that’s that.
Do you have any regrets from those moments?
Uh, yeah. Just engaging somebody. I mean there’s really no point.
