On this week’s episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County, Gretchen Rossi took one step closer to being an actual housewife when she proposed to her boyfriend, Slade Smiley. Now she is talking about the proposal and their upcoming wedding.

“Anyone that knows me knows that I don’t really do anything that’s not outside the box,” Gretchen told Us Weekly. “That’s just how I always have lived my life. I don’t do things that are very traditional.”

Gretchen then explained why she was ready to marry Slade this year enough to propose to him, compared to last year when she shot down any discussions of marriage.

“I think what really helped me make that decision … was last season we saw Slade thinking about proposing to me. I found out and I got cold feet, and I kind of put the kibosh on it,” she said. “I was concerned because there were some things that I wanted to have worked out before we went down that road.”

Once she decided she knew Slade was the man she wanted to be with for the rest of her life, she definitely went about things a little unconventionally with her elaborate proposal. After he said yes, the two of them picked out a ring together for her to wear.

“This is my ring! I’m very excited about it. Slade and I actually went and designed it together at Newport Jeweler, which is our family jeweler. What makes this ring really special is that it has a yellow diamond in the middle.”

As for when the big day will be, they don’t have an exact date nailed down quite yet.

“We’ve been talking a lot about it,” Gretchen said during her appearance this week on Watch What Happens Live. “We’ve kind of thrown around next August, but I’ve got to tell you something about that date: I swear to god it’s going to change 12 times. So I don’t want that going out in the press tomorrow. For a wedding, I want it just to marinate for a long time. I’m going to change my mind, like, 28 times before the wedding, so we’ll see what happens.”
