Peggy Tanous may seem like just another name on the Real Housewives of Orange County's
one-and-done list. Tanous only made it through RHOC
season six -- but the former model and mother of two says that she has personal reasons for taking an early exit.
Peggy admitted on last week's episode of RHOC
that being a part of the group of ladies was worsening her postpartum depression, an issue she openly dealt with during her short run on the show. She specifically pointed out that friend-turned-foe Alexis Bellino was the cause of most of her anxiety within the group.
After leaving the show relatively quietly, Peggy talked to Wetpaint Entertainment
about her decision to leave.
"I am happy with my decision to leave the show," she said. "I think this was the best decision for me and my family. I didn't want to get pigeon-holed as a 'Housewife' and am excited to be focusing on my hosting and other positive show opportunities."
She also spoke about her relationship with Alexis and the current state of her depression.
"I have not spoken to Alexis since filming Vicki's party in September. We are different people with different priorities, but I wish her well," she said in a very housewife politically correct fashion. And she said of her depression, "I think leaving the show did alleviate a lot of anxiety and prevent even stronger anxiety if I continued on with season seven."
Peggy says she is going to continue to open up and reach out to other women who suffer from the same illness, and is grateful for the platform of the show to raise awareness about PPD.
"I'm writing a book on postpartum depression and that should be out in late spring," she said. "It will be funny and raw. I will say what all moms think but are afraid to say."
While Peggy's squabbles with Alexis will be missed, I think it's fair to hope that new girl Heather Dubrow will add just as much drama. Gina PusateriContributing Writer(Image courtesy of Bravo)
