In July, Teresa and Joe Giudice of The Real Housewives of New Jersey
were indicted on 39 counts of fraud
. Now, they have been charged with two additional fraud charges, according to CNN
Teresa and Joe are due in court today, and US Attorney Paul Fishman, who is trying their case for the people, said that the new counts stem from a mortgage loan directly obtained by Teresa in 2005.
"In the course of obtaining the loan, she and Giuseppe [Joe] Giudice prepared a loan application which falsely stated that Teresa Giudice was employed as a realtor and that she had a monthly salary of $15,000," Fishman told CNN. "Teresa Giudice was not employed outside the home at the time."
Teresa and Joe's attorney, Miles Feinstein, told reporters back in August that Teresa and Joe would not take the stand against one another. The two entered pleas
of "not guilty" in August.
Among other charges, Joe is accused of failing to file tax returns from 2004 to 2008. He is also facing additional charges for a separate case
where he illegally obtained a fraudulent license under his brother's name. While this crime alone could lead Joe to spend some time in jail, both Teresa and Joe are facing separate sentences of multiple years if convicted on the fraud charges.
An inside source told E! News
that Teresa is trying to keep cool about her upcoming court appearance, which will just be a duplication of her earlier court appearance where she will plead not guilty to the two new charges and then leave.
"Right now, she's trying not to get too worked up, but she is very sensitive as to who is reaching out to her to show support and who isn't," an insider said. "She's very aware of who has called or texted her and who isn't. That's the biggest thing with her right now: who's really there for her and Joe."
And despite all of the legal battles, the show must go on.
"Producers from the show were at her house yesterday," the source told E! "That was their first trip out to see her. They discussed potential story lines. Everything seems to be moving forward."
